1. Steps for Sprouting Your Seed
Day One:
1) We will read and discuss as a class Ten
Seeds and The Empty Pot.
2) Take one lima bean seed. Place it in a wet paper towel.
Write your name on the plastic plate with a crayon. Put
the wet towel on this plate
over night.
3) In your assigned groups of four, you will make "predictions" about
what will happen with your seeds and each of you will write this down under
"question 1" at the top of the page on the
Journaling Form.
Day Two:
1) Carefully remove your lima bean
from the paper towel. Place it on the plate. Put the paper
towel in the trash can.
2) With your magnifying glass, study the different parts of the
sprouted seed.
3) We will reread and discuss as a class Ten Seeds to see what
plant growth stage we think your seed is in.
4) Write down what actually happened to your seed in the proper space
on your Journaling form.
5) Plant your seed one inch deep in a pot with soil. Carefully water
the soil so it is wet, but no soil spills out of the pot.
Over the Next Month
1) Once a week answer the questions on your Journaling Form.
2. Research, Draw and Label the Stages of How
a Seed Grows into a Plant

Resources
page:
-Go to the Websites to do their projects.
-Review the books we read as a class.
- Copy, cut out, and work with the Stages of
Plant Growth Flash Cards.
-Review your Journaling notes.
2) Decide what you think the stages of a plant's life are and think
about how you will draw these stages.
3) Make your Stages of Plant Growth Book. Do this by
making an accordion book with one stage and one picture per page.

plant.

into a plant.
