1. Steps for Sprouting Your Seed  
Day One: 
1) We will read and discuss as a class Ten Seeds and The Empty Pot.

2) Take one lima bean seed.  Place it in a wet paper towel.  Write your name   on the plastic plate with a crayon.  Put the wet towel on this plate over night.

3)  In your assigned groups of four, you will make "predictions" about what will happen with your seeds and each of you will write this down under  "question 1" at the top of the page on the Journaling Form

Day Two: 
1)  Carefully remove your lima bean from the paper towel.  Place it on the  plate.  Put the paper towel in the trash can. 

2)  With your magnifying glass, study the different parts of the sprouted seed.

3)  We will reread and discuss as a class Ten Seeds to see what plant growth stage we think your seed is in.

4)  Write down what actually happened to your seed in the proper space on your Journaling form.

5)  Plant your seed one inch deep in a pot with soil. Carefully water the soil so it is wet, but no soil spills out of the pot.

Over the Next Month
1)  Once a week answer the questions on your Journaling Form.


2. Research, Draw and Label the Stages of How a Seed Grows into a Plant
1)  First, go to the Resources page:
                                 -Go to the Websites to do their projects.
                                 -Review the books we read as a class.
                                 - Copy, cut out, and work with the Stages of
                                   Plant Growth 
Flash Cards.  
                                 -Review your Journaling notes.

2)  Decide what you think the stages of a plant's life are and think about how you will draw these stages.
   
3)  Make your Stages of Plant Growth Book.  Do this by making an accordion book with one stage and one picture per page.   How to Make an Accordion Book.


3.  Make a PowerPoint Presentation on What a Seed Needs to Grow into a Healthy Plant
1)  We will read and discuss in class How Groundhog's Garden Grew and The Empty Pot.
2)  In your groups, decide what a seed needs to grow into a healthy plant. 
                           -Use the books we read in class
                           -Remember our class discussions 
                           -Think about what your own seed needed to grow
                            into a plant.
 3)  For your presentation, use complete sentences, spell words correctly.  Add pictures and sounds you think illustrate what you are trying to say.

     4.  Make Your Group Presentation for Mrs. Jones
In your groups, plan and practice your presentation for Mrs. Jones on :
                           - The Stages of Plant Growth and
                           - What a Seed Needs to Grow into a Healthy Plant
You may use in your presentations your:
                           - PowerPoint presentation
                           - Stages of Plant Growth Book
                           - Any book we have in class
                           - Your personal experiences with your seed
                             and plant
                           - Anything else you think is important for Mrs. Jones
                             to know
Presentations must be no longer than 10 minutes each.
